Seeking High-Skilled Volunteers for the Nonprofit Evolution Lab

Starting a nonprofit is an inspiring journey, but it can be filled with many unknowns. New nonprofits are passionate about serving their communities but are typically volunteer led and may lack the time and resources to access the foundational education and coaching they need.

As a part of our education and capacity building efforts, we have consolidated the most current and relevant information in one place - the Nonprofit Evolution Lab. By making the need-to-know education easily accessible and offering tools like an organizational development plan, we aim to help nonprofits have a stronger start that will lead to a more sustainable organization.

Along this journey, nonprofits will need a guiding hand to bridge any gaps and to ensure their progress is on the right track. That is where you come in!

We're seeking skilled volunteers with expertise in funding and revenue development, board governance, financial management, strategic planning, and nonprofit law and regulatory compliance to coach new and emerging nonprofit organizations in Alberta.

As a coach, you'll play a pivotal role in helping new and startup nonprofits avoid common pitfalls and build strong, sustainable organizations that can make a real difference in the communities they serve. With your expertise, you’ll be a guiding hand for leaders who are eager to create positive change, but who need the support and knowledge to navigate the complex world of nonprofits.

Areas of Expertise

As a volunteer coach, you’ll directly help new nonprofits better understand the following areas of nonprofit development. Volunteers can choose to coach in one or all the following areas.

  • Fundraising: Guide organizations in creating sustainable fundraising strategies, helping them learn how to secure the support they need to continue their mission.
  • Financial Management: Assist nonprofits to learn about budgeting, accounting practices, and long-term financial planning, ensuring they avoid costly mistakes and stay financially strong.
  • Governance: Help nonprofits build strong, accountable boards and leadership structures, bridge gaps in organizational development, and ensure they can navigate their growth with confidence.
  • Nonprofit Law: Provide expertise in navigating the complexities of legal status, compliance, and governance, helping nonprofits avoid legal pitfalls and establish a solid foundation.

Why Your Expertise Matters

New nonprofits often face steep learning curves and lack the resources required for a sustainable foundation. By volunteering just a few hours a month, you will help new initiatives bridge the gap between potential and success. Your expertise will give these nonprofits the tools to avoid common mistakes and thrive in their early years, ultimately allowing them to make a greater impact on the communities they serve.
